Tamaqua Summerfest has new format, new location
The 33rd Annual Tamaqua Summerfest will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday with an all new format.
All crafters and vendors will set up on both sides of South Railroad Street between West Broad and Spruce streets.
In the past, the event was held along Broad Street but was moved for better accessibility.
Railroad Street will be closed to traffic, and visitors will be able to safely walk down the center of the street.
Summerfest will include the attractions that most have come to expect.
It will feature scenic train rides from the Tamaqua Train Station at 11 a.m., and 1 and 3 p.m. Bus tours of Lehigh Anthracite mining operations will be held at 9 and 11 a.m., and 1 and 3 p.m.
The Tamaqua Historical Society Museum, Tamaqua Railroad Station, 1848 Hegarty Blacksmith Shop and new Tamaqua Wagon Works Museum next to the blacksmith shop, will be open.
The Tamaqua Anthracite Model Railroad Club will operate its H.O. scale train layout and downtown restaurants, craft breweries, and stores will be open.
A large craft and street vendor fair all along South Railroad Street and the train station sidewalk will include food, crafts and more. There will be amusement games, a giant bounce house, caricature paintings, face painting and visits from Buster the Clown.
Polka Joe Manjack will broadcast the Magic Polka Machine live for WMGH radio station. Other music will be provided by DJ Shawn Frederickson and the Faculty Brass Band.
A vintage coal truck will be displayed and Leiby’s Carriage Service will offer horse-drawn trolley car rides.
There will be no car show.
Reading and Northern Railroad train tickets and Lehigh Anthracite bus tour tickets can be purchased in advance at Tink’s Antiques on South Railroad Street on Friday and Saturday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Remaining train tickets can be purchased on Sunday at the Railroad Station. Remaining bus tour tickets can be purchased at the bus boarding location in front of Tommy’s Italian Restaurant on North Railroad Street.
