At the Washington Township supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Chairman Josh Friebolin spoke about how much Roy Dengler will be missed.
Dengler was the roadmaster for Washington Township for 30 years, and was a supervisor from 1982 to 2018. He also served on the Farm and Planning Commission for 36 years, was a member of Emerald Fire Company, and an integral in farm preservation throughout Lehigh County.
He passed away on May 19 at the age of 91.
Friebolin grew up across the street from Dengler. “I can remember Roy always speaking Pennsylvania Dutch to whoever could speak it. He was excellent at it.”
“He was an excellent roadmaster. He knew everything about the township there was to know. When it came to asking the supervisors for money for repair of equipment or something new for the township in his job as roadmaster, Roy just hated to ask the supervisors.
“Roy was always at the end of the Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade to prevent cars from getting too close to the floats.”
Friebolin asked for a moment of silence in Dengler’s memory before starting the agenda.
