Bollinger, Misericordia baseball win national title

The Misericordia University baseball team captured the first national title in school history with a 10-5 win over Wisconsin-Whitewater at the NCAA Division-III World Series, Thursday in Eastlake, Ohio.

After dropping a 16-10 decision in game two of the three-game series, the Cougars opened the final game with a seven-run first inning and never looked back.

Palmerton graduate Brock Bollinger doubled down the left field line to plate MU’s first run and the Cougars never trailed.

In three games against Wisconsin-Whitewater, Bollinger was 6-for-11 with three runs scored, three doubles, and three RBIs.

The junior batted .356 (third among qualified hitters) in 55 games played this season, with 52 RBIs (second on the team), 51 runs scored, team-leading 19 doubles, four home runs (second on the team) and three triples (tied for second on the team). He finished with a .546 slugging percentage, which was second among qualified hitters.

The Cougars finished the season with a record of 44-11.
