Today is deadline for tornado damage reports

Residents affected by the May 27 tornado in Mahanoy City and Mahanoy Township should report damages by today to Mahanoy City Borough Hall or Schuylkill County Office of Emergency Management at 570-622-3739.

As of Wednesday, county emergency management said reports have been received from four businesses and 27 residences. Most damages are being covered by private insurance.

Based on the damage reports received, the area will not qualify for federal disaster funding. Emergency management staff and local officials have worked carefully to review damages and requirements for programs.

Any resident with concerns or questions regarding their homeowners insurance coverage can contact The Pennsylvania Insurance Department by calling 877-881- 6388 or by visiting the Pennsylvania Insurance Department website.

The Schuylkill County COAD will help assist uninsured homeowners with tornado recovery.

COAD will work with a disaster care manager to assist uninsured residents coordinate resources needed to address home repair. The COAD will work to identify possible funding, donation of materials, and coordination of volunteers.
