Panther Valley National Honor Society helps the community
Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, the Panther Valley Chapter of the National Honor Society has been dedicated in various aspects within the community whether it be by volunteering or through monetary donations.
The students in our chapter started the school year off by running a basket raffle to raise money for our organization.
We then organized a sticky bun fundraiser to raise money for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation.
Upon conclusion of the sticky bun fundraiser, we began selling daffodils and tulips for the American Cancer Society’s annual Daffodil Days event.
While fundraising, we were able to still maintain high standards of volunteering in the community for places such as the Maple Shade Nursing Home in Nesquehoning, the Lehigh Valley Children’s Center in Coaldale, our Elementary and Intermediate Schools, the American Cancer Society, the Spartan Games, the Carbon County Senior Games, and the Second Harvest Food Bank at the Panther Valley Elementary School.
The students within our chapter are committed to being a part of something that is so much bigger than themselves.
At the end of the school year, the Panther Valley National Honor Society was able to donate $1,500 to the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, $500 to the Carbon County Animal Shelter, and $500 to Carbon County Friends of Animals.
Each of the organizations that we have chosen to donate time and money to, holds a place that is near and dear to the hearts of our members as well our Advisor. It is our hope that these donations will help improve the work of these organizations, and based on the gratitude we have received from them thus far, they certainly will.
“The Panther Valley Chapter sponsors a wide variety of service projects within our school district and the surrounding communities. I am extremely proud and honored to recognize these exceptional members of our student body. Their outstanding contributions, combined with their energy and passion, are truly commendable,” said Chrisanne Powell, PV’s Chapter NHS Advisor.
Our hardworking NHS secretary, Merissa Miller, whose dedication to improving our organization and community as a whole said, “Since becoming a member of the National Honor Society, I have changed from a quiet and anti-social person to a more vibrant and communicative personality because of volunteering and seeing the people in my community who need and appreciate the help.
“This has helped bring me out of my shell and become an active participant in my community and in my own life, instead of being the reserved person I once was.” As you can see, the students in the National Honor Society have acquired a multitude of skills that will benefit them throughout their entire lives.”
