Pl. Vy. appoints a new middle school principal

A new principal has been appointed to the Pleasant Valley Middle School.

Superintendent James Konrad recently confirmed on Tuesday that Timothy McCutchan, the assistant principal at the intermediate school, has been appointed to the principal position at the middle school. He will replace Principal Kendal Askins, who left in late May.

Konrad said his appointment will be on the agenda for the next school board meeting on June 20, retroactive to June 1.

Askins said in a social media post, “I was going to refrain from commenting, but before rumors fly, I received another job opportunity! Even though there are clearly mixed feelings about me as a person, as an educator I loved all of your children as my own. It was an honor to serve you, and I wish all of you the best in all you do!”

At the May 23 school board meeting, they approved a resignation and release agreement for an unnamed person in the Human Resources addendum section of their agenda.

On Tuesday, Konrad said that Askins “no longer works for the district.”

Askins was approved for the middle school position at the April 27, 2023, school board meeting. She replaced Principal Jason Van Voorhis, who took the newly created position of principal of the Bears Academy. Askins was the principal at the intermediate school at the time of her appointment.

The school board approved hiring Ramon Rodriguez at the May 23 meeting as a second assistant principal at the middle school. He joins Josephine Dyett-Fields, who was already an assistant principal at PVMS.
