Lansford man charged for assaulting woman

A Lansford man faces strangulation, assault and other charges following domestic disputes over the course of a weekend in mid-May.

Devin Hoffman, 27, of West Patterson Street, was arraigned Sunday by District Judge Joseph Homanko on charges of strangulation, unlawful restraint, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment.

He was released from the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning on Monday on $25,000 bail.

According to court papers, the victim came to the Lansford Police Department and reported multiple assaults by Hoffman on May 11 and 12 at the West Patterson Street address.

She told police that she had a Protection from Abuse Order against Hoffman, but went back to the residence two weeks earlier because she had no place to stay.

She provided discharge paperwork from St. Luke’s Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale, which details injuries, including bruising and discoloration of the skin around her throat, and other bruising consistent with being grabbed and struck by a closed fist, court papers said.

She told police that Hoffman became angry with her on May 11, struck her in the face with an open palm, and told her that she would never leave the residence again.

She tried to get away, but Hoffman struck her with a closed fist and held her down until she quit resisting, court papers said.

The following day, Hoffman was angry with her for “slacking off” around the house, and a fight ensued and Hoffman threw her down on the bed. She threatened to turn him in to police, and strangled her until she briefly lost consciousness, she told police.

She got away from him, went to the kitchen and grabbed a frying pan to defend herself, court papers said. The food from the pan fell to the floor, and Hoffman pushed her down, dragged her across the floor and demanded she lick up the food, court papers said.

She tried to resist the assault, and Hoffman hit her in the head and ribs with a fist multiple times, she told police. She collapsed on her stomach and Hoffman asked if she wanted to be raped, too, and again told her that she would never leave the residence, court papers said.

She was able to escape the home on May 13 and sought medical attention, she told police.
