A new wheelchair is within easy reach at Baer Memorial Swimming Pool in Lehighton.
Lehigh Fire Co No. 1 donated $3,500 to the pool for the stroller, said Tom Evans, borough recreation director.
The donation came from the Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1 social quarters small games of chance, according to Lonny Armbruster, president of the Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1 social quarters.
Armbruster said the fire company does its best to give back to the community.
Evans said the pool is extremely appreciative for the wheelchair, which will be used for the handicapped to go in and enjoy the water.
“We’d like to thank them for everything they have done for the community and the pool,” Evans said. “It’s a great group of people that donate money, and they donate to other associations.”
Evans noted that back in 2020, Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1 donated $2,500 to the pool for a wheelchair as well.
He added that the fire company also previously donated $2,500 for safety equipment for AEDs and more.
In addition, Evans said the fire company previously donated 2 picnic tables totaling over $1,000, a bench worth $500 in honor of Skip Conarty, and kitchen equipment from the fire company.
