Two charged with sale of stolen firearms

Two Luzerne County men have been charged with the illegal sale of narcotics and stolen firearms.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Joshua E. Silfee of the Weatherly Police Department in the case against Jeffrey Wilkinson and Ryan Berger:

On April 15, Silfee spoke to a confidential source about Wilkinson, 28, of Freeland, who he stated sells narcotics and stolen firearms.

The source contacted Wilkinson about the potential purchase of a .22 caliber handgun with a “chopped” barrel.

Wilkinson agreed to deliver this gun to Weatherly and sell it to the confidential source for $200.

On April 27, the confidential source met Wilkinson, who arrived in an orange Chevrolet station wagon and sold the firearm to the confidential source.

The gun, an Iver Johnson .22 caliber revolver, was taken from the source.

The confidential source was then in contact again beginning on May 6 to May 10 for a sawed-off shotgun.

Wilkinson then sold the confidential source a shotgun with a wood stock and silver barrel which had the serial number completely removed and ground off, for the price of $300.

On May 13, the source met Wilkinson and purchased a .22 caliber H & R revolver, as well as a .32 caliber H & R revolver for the price of $450.

The source told Wilkinson he needed to hurry up because he is not legally allowed to possess a firearm and could not be caught with them.

On May 15, Wilkinson and the confidential source communicated to discuss the purchase of an “8 ball” of methamphetamine.

Wilkinson agreed to meet the confidential source in Weatherly to sell him the controlled substance for the price of $150.

When Wilkinson delivered 4.04 grams of methamphetamine, he was with an unknown African American man.

Immediately after the conclusion of the transaction, Wilkinson then met with the confidential source at an agreed location to facilitate a narcotics transaction.

Wilkinson provided three separate bags each containing methamphetamine, weighing 2.4 grams, 3.8 grams and 3.6 grams.

The confidential informant was given $275 for the controlled substance.

Wilkinson had the unknown African American man as his front passenger again.

On Tuesday, the confidential source met Wilkinson and exchanged $350 for four individually wrapped packages of methamphetamine.

Police stopped Wilkinson and the other male, identified as Berger, 34, of Freeland.

A records check shows Wilkinson is not allowed to transfer or purchase firearms as he has a criminal record.

Wilkinson faces charges on four counts of person not to possess, use firearm; and three counts each of firearm ownership, manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent, and criminal conspiracy; and one count each of possess firearm with manufacture number altered, and criminal use of communication facility.

Berger faces charges on three counts of criminal conspiracy, and two counts each of possession of controlled substance by person not registered and criminal use of communication facility.

Both men are incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility; Wilkinson in lieu of $250,000 straight bail, and Berger in lieu of $100,000 straight bail, and are scheduled to have preliminary hearings June 5 before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr., of Weatherly.
