Los Poblanos Eatery opens in Palmerton

A Mexican American restaurant is bringing a bit of spice to Palmerton.

Los Poblanos Eatery opened its doors on May 20 at 315 Lehigh Ave.

Fermin Perez, owner, said that while Mexican food is its specialty, the restaurant tries to offer a little bit of something for everyone.

“Our main thing is Mexican food; everybody loves Mexican food,” Perez said. “We try to please the people with everything.”

Perez said he likes the community so much that he bought a house in town, where he lives with his wife, Yasmine Perez.

“I think it’s a beautiful town,” he said. “I really love it.”

Perez said he saw and heard there was a huge demand on Facebook and other forms of social media for a Mexican restaurant in town.

“I see the potential with a Mexican restaurant,” he said. “I said to my wife, ‘I’m going to open a Mexican restaurant. Everybody loves Mexican food.”

The restaurant has a breakfast menu, lunch menu, and Mexican menu.

As for breakfast items, Perez said chilaquiles have been the top seller. They also give out free coffee from 7 to 11 a.m. After 11 a.m., they give out free tortilla chips with beans, Mexican cheese and green sauce so that people have something to eat before their meal, he said.

Other popular breakfast choices include breakfast specials, Mexican breakfast, breakfast burritos, breakfast casseroles, breakfast sandwiches, omelets, waffles, pancakes, and French toast.

The lunch menu consists of appetizers, hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, and clubs.

The Mexican menu is comprised of Mexican plates, authentic Mexican tacos, fajitas, flautas, burritos, chimichanga, Mexican quesadillas and tortas.

Perez said they eventually plan to add some specials to the menu, once they get more staff. Currently, he said, they have five employees.

In addition, he said they give 10% discounts to veterans and first responders. Also, they give 10% discounts on holidays to everyone.

“They are important to the community,” Perez said. “We want to give something to the community so they can come and see us and enjoy themselves.”

Above all else, Perez said customers seemed to be “very happy” with the experience.

“Every day since we opened, everybody has been great, the people of this town,” he said. “I’d like to give a thank you to the people who supported us; we are very happy to be here.”

Perez said he has another business, Poblanos Eatery in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, that opened in November 2023. He said that business is run by his brother, Wilibaldo Perez.

“The business over there, most people love the food,” said Fermin Perez, who added he wants the people of Palmerton to experience that same savory taste. “I feel like this town is my house, and I want to bring that flavor to Palmerton.”
