Route 309 in West Penn township was closed Thursday night due to a crash. The crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. as a motorist was apparently traveling north and lost control, entering the right berm hitting a utility pole and snapping off a utility pole. The incident caused heavy utility cables to shred across the roadway.

The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Tamaqua ambulance before being transported to a nearby trauma center.

Reports on the scene indicate alcohol was a factor.

West Penn Township police are investigating the incident.
