May 28, 1977 - Palmerton’s Bradley Browne and Dennis Lentz both set new state meet records in capturing gold medals at the PIAA State Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg. Lentz clears 14-0 1/4 in the pole vault to top the old mark of 13-9, while Browne wins the mile in a time of 4:15.6 to better the previous record of 4:19.4. Browne also earns a medal in the 880, placing sixth. The Blue Bombers, coached by Art George, also receive a third place from John Pitts in the two mile and a fifth from Kay Partel in the 440. Pitts runs his race in a school-record time of 9:28.1, while Partel crosses the finish in 58.8.
