Area pools open Saturday for summer season

Warm weather means pool time. Several municipalities are opening their public pools this Memorial Day weekend.

Baer Mem. Swimming Pool

Baer Memorial Swimming Pool in Lehighton will open Saturday for Memorial Day weekend.

Hours are noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The pool will then be closed Tuesday through Friday.

From that point, hours will be noon to 7 p.m. the remainder of the season, weather pending, borough recreation director Tom Evans said.

Evans said pool memberships are available for Carbon County residents.

“This has been our best year selling pool membership,” Evans said.

The daily rate for Carbon residents is $10 for adults and $7 for children.

Swimming lessons are offered with the pool membership, Evans said, and added they also give private lessons. Evening lessons start June 10 at 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., with morning lessons starting June 20 at 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.

Evans said the Summer Youth Program begins July 8 at Baer Memorial and runs for three weeks through July 26, Monday through Friday.

Lehighton Area Pool Pals will hold its Family Fun Day from 6 to 9 p.m. July 20, Evans said. Christmas in July will be held at 6 p.m. July 25.

Evans said the pool’s concession stand has everything from cheeseburgers to chicken fingers and French fries, along with ice cream, smoothies and other beverages.

“We have an amazing food court,” he said. “We keep prices low for families to afford.”

Additionally, Evans said the pool is aesthetically pleasing.

“It’s clean,” he said. “We pride ourselves on cleanliness and having the cleanest pool.”

Evans said rental parties are available at a cost of $300 per day for up to 50 people.

Palmerton Memorial Pool

Palmerton Memorial Pool is set for a Memorial Day weekend opening.

The pool will open Memorial Day weekend from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and noon to 8 p.m. Monday.

It will be open from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Friday.

Regular pool hours begin June 1 when the pool is open from noon to 8 p.m. (10 a.m. to noon for adult lap swimming) seven days a week.

The cost for daily admission for in-state residents is $12 for adults and $8 for children/senior citizens; out-of-state is $15 for adults and $10 for children/senior citizens. Admission is free for children under the age of 2, and adults over the age of 85.

Swimming lessons, which run from June 13 to 28, are available for children who hold a season membership.

Season passes are available at palmertonpool.com or stop by the pool office for membership.

More information can be found on the pool’s website, palmertonpool.com or on the Palmerton Memorial Park Association Facebook page.

Gretchen Laviolette, secretary of the Palmerton Memorial Pool Association, said the Palmerton Memorial Park Association “is very excited to be opening for our 77th year.”

“The board of directors and management have been very busy over the offseason in preparation for what they hope will be a very successful and sunshiny summer,” she said.

Laviolette said they are pleased to be using a new membership program called CommunityPass.

“This program allows for more modern day technology, such as the option of using e-passes and loading money on an account to be used at the refreshment stand,” she said. “It also allowed us to offer a payment plan for season memberships over the months of January through April, which was utilized by many patrons.”

Laviolette added that the PMPA is “very grateful for the support of our customers and local businesses.

“We especially want to thank PenTeleData and Pencor for their financial contribution and donation of two laptops to be used with the new program,” she said. “We also are grateful to the BEFESA Community Fund for their financial contribution, which will cover the rest of the technology purchases.”

Laviolette said special event days are being planned for the summer, and to check out the newly created Pool Pals Instagram account for more information throughout the season.

“We invite everyone to come enjoy the beautiful facility that Palmerton has to offer,” she said. “It truly is Palmerton’s hidden gem.”
