Jim Thorpe Lions honor students of the month
Eight students from the Jim Thorpe Area High School were named Student of the Month for each month of the school year by the Jim Thorpe Lions Club at a dinner held May 7 at the high school.
Each student received a certificate and a check for $75.
“As you enter this next chapter of your life,” Lions Club President Pam McElmoyle said to the students, “It is time to used what you have learned. No matter what you do, do it with grace and good intentions in life.”
McElmoyle pointed out that the Jim Thorpe Lions Club was formed in 1948 with the motto, “We Serve,” and was built upon the principles of good government and good citizenship.
“We take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of our community.”
The Jim Thorpe Lions have awarded Student of the Month awards since the 1970s. The students are chosen by the faculty and administration for their achievements in their particular course of study and for their character.
“This means a lot,” senior Eric Irizarry of Albrightsville remarked. “It’s been a rough year for me; but, this means a lot to me.”
