A Luzerne County woman is dead after being struck by a train early Monday evening in Kidder Township.
Carbon County Coroner Mark K. Smith said the incident occurred just before 5 p.m. about 2 miles from the intersection of Tannery Road and Route 534 in Kidder Township.
Smith said the victim, Kumrie Zuberi, 28, of White Haven, was pronounced dead at 6:43 p.m.
Smith said the death will be ruled accidental.
“She was apparently walking along the track, and we did find some headphones that she had on,” Smith said. “We can only assume that she did not hear that the train was coming and she was struck.”
Smith said the incident was investigated by the Carbon County Coroner’s office along with the Reading and Northern Railroad Police.
He said also assisting at the scene were Kidder Township Police, Albrightsville Fire Company, Lake Harmony Fire Company, Lake Harmony EMS, and Lehighton EMS.
