Animal cruelty charges are pending against a 69-year-old Coaldale woman after Pennsylvania State Police and the Coaldale Police Department found 17 severely neglected dogs and other animals at her home.
According to information from the state police, troopers and Coaldale police executed a search warrant at the home at 3 p.m. Monday and seized 17 Great Pyrenees dogs, two cats, two birds and a turtle.
“The animals were found in a state of severe neglect, showing signs of malnutrition, untreated medical conditions, and poor living conditions,” police said.
An investigation is underway and charges of animal cruelty and neglect are pending, police said.
State and Coaldale police are working with the Pennsylvania SPCA to ensure the animals receive the property veterinary care and treatment.
The Tamaqua Police Department assisted with the search warrant.
