South leads with 1 day remaining for senior games
With one day left of competition, returning champs South Carbon County, comprised of Lehighton and Palmerton seniors, continue to lead the 2024 Carbon County Senior Games.
The South took many of the top places during Wednesday’s events, which included bingo, pinochle, rummy and dancing.
The combined scores are South Carbon County, 732; and North Carbon County, comprised of Panther Valley, Weatherly and Jim Thorpe, 473.
The final day of competition is today with miniature golf at Heisler’s Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley.
The games will officially conclude at 4 p.m. on Friday with a banquet at the Oriole’s in Lehighton.
Highlights of this year’s games included Martha Moyer of Jim Thorpe sharing her vocal talent during the opening ceremony; first-time competitor Drew Everett, whose father was a seasoned participant for many years, took home this year’s Philip Steigerwalt Memorial Walk award; and friends, both new and old alike, coming together to enjoy some friendly competition.
