Coaldale woman charged with making false report

A Coaldale woman who said she was attacked and robbed just after midnight on March 26, has been charged with providing false reports to police.

Coaldale police also filed a charge of false swearing against Jane Hettler, 55, West Phillips Street.

According to police, officers were sent to the Ridge Terrace complex and spoke to a man who had phoned the ambulance for Hettler. He told police that Hettler had called for help and when he went outside the complex he found her lying on the ground near her car. He said she had injuries.

Police said they then spoke to Hettler who complained of arm pain and had a lump on her head. She said she said that when she exited her car to unload groceries at 12:04 a.m., she was attacked and woke up to realize her wallet was stolen.

She told police that she lost $300 and multiple credit cards but did not know who attacked her.

Police said they interviewed Hettler again on April 3. She told police that she provided some incorrect information, including that she only had $150 missing from her wallet. Police said the noticed some discrepancies in her statement.

Officers said they obtained video surveillance and watched as Hettler arrives at Ridge Terrace, retrieves bags from her car, then walks behind it. At that point, police said, she throws herself onto the ground. Officers said the video does not show Hettler being attacked.

Police filed charges May 14.
