The Veterans Commission of Polk Township is slated to meet at 6 p.m. today.

The Park Committee meeting is 6 p.m. next Thursday.

Matching gift

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is offering another free drive- through community supper this evening at 5 p.m.

TOPS meeting

TOPS (Take of Pounds Sensibly) at Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran in Kresgeville meets at 6 p.m. every Wednesday.

National Police Week

State Rep. Jack Rader reminds everyone that today is Peace Officers Memorial Day, established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962.

The day is designed to pay tribute to the brave local, state and federal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty. The day falls during National Police Week, which is being marked from May 12-18.

WE Lions meet

The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet Thursday at noon at Cherry’s Restaurant in Kresgeville. For this meeting no guests have been invited.

Men’s breakfast

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting its monthly Men’s Breakfast at 8:30 a.m., May 18.

The senior luncheon is slated for 1 p.m. May 20.

Plants & Pentecost

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, has a tradition of decorating the chancel area and sanctuary with red geraniums to celebrate the Season of Pentecost.

The geraniums will then be planted outside around the church grounds to colorfully remind folks of the Season of Pentecost all summer long.

Folks are welcome to bring their own red geraniums for planting.

Ross yard sale

Ross Township’s permit-free yard sale will take place Saturday and Sunday. For particulars call the township at 570-992-4990. The township hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PVP sermon series

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Brodheadsville, continues its series of May sermons this coming Sunday based on the theme: The Priesthood of the Believer.

The topic is Revival and Restoration by DaraSue Braun using Ezekiel 37:1-14. John 14:16,17, Romans 8:26, 27 as the Scriptural basis.

The worship time is 10 a.m.

A coffee fellowship immediately follows the worship service.

Flea market set

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, is hosting an outdoor flea market on Saturday. The rain date is May 21.

Planting ahead

The Garden of Giving will hold its Saturday and Sunday. The planting will be done both days from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All supplies will be provided, and a picnic lunch will be served under the trellis.

On Memorial Day weekend, the Garden is closed. The Garden begins summer hours of 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, on June 7.

Indoor helpers are still needed for the office, for the computer and to organize the various volunteer groups.

Zinc City events

On May 18, Zinc City will hold a Sip Along the Strip in Kresgeville. In addition to more than 40 vendors, the Route 209, Kresgeville site will have music by a DJ and the band Prime Cuts. Tickets may be purchased in advance by searching “Sip along the Strip” for instructions. The address is 10485 Interchange Rd, Kresgeville.

Then on Sunday, Zinc City Motorcycle Club is holding a Poker Run at the facility on Interchange Road. It runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A specific donation is requested.

Spaghetti Saturday

Effort UMC is hosting a spaghetti dinner Saturday, in support of Austin’s Blue Line. It is a dine-in or takeout event.

The hours are 4 to 7 p.m. in Wesley Hall. For costs and other information call the church by Thursday at 570-629-1890.

The church office is available from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Also on Saturday, the Men’s Group will meet at 9 a.m. in the kitchen.

Special celebrations

Salem-St. Paul’s, Kresgeville, will celebrate the several things this Sunday.

Along with celebrating Pentecost, the church will celebrate the accomplishment of Debra Obeid, who was recently licensed by Bishop deForest to preach, preside at communion, baptize, and officiate at weddings and funerals.

In addition, 6 youth will be confirmed: Kellen Jaxson Hinton, Landyn Timothy Hinton, Clint Franklin Johnson, Gianni Destiny Candelario, Jade Marie-Ruthie Rios and Gabriel Mourra.

A reception will follow to recognize the new licensee and the six confirmands.

Polk Supervisors meeting

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Municipal Building in Kresgeville.

Sandwich sale

The Monroe County Order of the Eastern Star will hold a sandwich sale from 1 to 2:30 p.m., May 24-25 at the area Masonic Center on Rimrock Road.

One can order barbecue pulled pork or sloppy joe sandwiches, by calling 570-656-3711. Orders can be served ready to eat or cold.
