The Lehighton Borough Police Department, working in conjunction with the American Lung Association, will be conducting “Tobacco Compliance” checks of local retailers who offer tobacco products for sale.
The police department recognizes the need to ensure its local retailers are complying with state laws governing the sales of Tobacco Products to minors.
Compliance Checks will begin the end of May. Retailers who are found to be in compliance will receive a letter from the state advising a check was conducted and their business was in compliance.
Retailers found in violation, will be issued administrative fines in accordance to state laws.
“Lehighton Borough Police Department is excited to partner with the American Lung Association to ensure our tobacco retailers are staying in compliance and not allowing persons, under the age of 21, to acquire tobacco products,” said borough police Chief Troy Abelovsky. “The police department is dedicated to the health and well-being of our community residents.
“We hope these efforts will make a difference in the youths of Lehighton Borough.”
