“A mother is the holiest thing alive,” states an inscription at the base of the Mothers Memorial, built 1938 by the Ashland Boys Association. The Schuylkill County statue, modeled after the painting of Whistler’s Mother, honors all mothers and is believed to be the only one of its kind in the world.
