Lansford Borough Council gave the thumbs up to the Lansford American Legion Post 123 to host the Carbon County Veterans Day Parade in November.
Richard Pogwist, past commander, submitted the necessary paperwork and required insurance for the parade to the borough Wednesday night.
“I come here this evening to ask the borough council’s permission,” he said.
The Veterans Day parade is planned for Nov. 10, with a rain date of Nov. 17, Pogwist said.
Council President Bruce Markovich asked if the Legion needed any assistance from the borough, and Pogwist said that they’ve already met with Police Chief Kyle Woodward to discuss a plan.
“We’re going to need some streets blocked off,” Pogwist said, noting that the parade really involves the entire community. “It’s probably going to involve a little bit of overtime for borough workers and the police department.”
Councilman Jack Soberick, who was police chief the last time Lansford hosted the parade, said that he would provide any assistance, and that there is probably a file in the police station with the details from the last event.
“I commend the Legion for the last time, because it was a phenomenal parade,” Soberick said. “It was one of the most positive things the town hosted.”
Other council members agreed, and volunteered to help the Legion.
Soberick then asked Pogwist who the Grand Marshal was this year to which he replied, “I am,” getting a hearty round of applause from those attending the meeting.
Pogwist also invited everyone to the annual Memorial Day program in Kennedy Park on May 27 at 9 a.m.
