Blue Ridge Rifles holding Memorial Day Rendezvous and Shoot

Blue Ridge Rifles Muzzleloader Club is presenting its annual Memorial Day Rendezvous and Shoot, Thursday-Monday, May 23-27. Matches for flintlock and percussion rifles will be shot Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the range on club grounds located along Coon Club Road, just off Route 183, south of Summit Station.

Gates open Thursday at noon for primitive and modern camping, and matches are shot in 15-minute relays, with paper targets shot at 25 yards for rifles and smoothbores, and separate events are held for men, women and juniors for both campers and day shooters. There is also a primitive range with novelty targets at varying distances, and specialty matches are held after the regular shooting events for rifles, fowlers and shotguns.

A grant by the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association has allowed the club to waive the cost of registration and targets for all youth shooters age 16 and younger. In addition, there is no fee for youth participating in the non-shooting competition.

The most unique match of the event is the Yuengling 50-Yard Challenge, sponsored by D.G. Yuengling and Son, Pottsville. Yuengling has donated prizes valued at more than $150 for the top three shooters in the match.

Separate from the firing line is a primitive archery woods walk and a knife and tomahawk area. There are also non-shooting events and contests, and primitive games for children.
