Two Nesquehoning men charged after fight
Two Nesquehoning men face charges after police responded to a report of a large fight and gunshots in October.
Borough police charged Craig Filer, 36, and John Zlock, 34, in the incident that started at the Nesquehoning VFW on East Center Street on Oct. 21.
Filer is charged with firearm not to be carried without a license, terroristic threats, tampering with physical evidence, reckless endangerment, simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness.
Zlock is charged with simple assault, two counts; disorderly conduct and harassment.
The men are scheduled to appear before District Judge Beth Dodson on June 5.
According to court papers, police were called to a fight involving about 20 people and a report of gunshots just after midnight.
Police encountered patrons, including Filer, outside the social club and police directed them away from the scene. Filer, who was visibly intoxicated, did not comply until threatened with arrest, court papers said.
A club employee told police that a patron had become unruly and was asked to leave, and when the patron refused, other club members including Filer, became physically involved and the incident spilled out onto the street, court papers said.
Surveillance images show Filer grabbing the patron around the neck and removing him from the building. Multiple people exited the building and followed the patron, who offered no resistance and was walking onto the street, court papers said.
The images also show Zlock, another club member, aggressively attempting to approach the patron multiple times and other members physically restraining him. Images show Zlock confronting the patron outside, court papers said.
The patron left before police arrived and he was located a short distance away. The man told police he was confronted by multiple individuals in the street and struck in the head and face by Zlock.
Witnesses reported gunshots to police and saw club members canvassing the ground in front of the club, court papers said. Officers were not able to find any shell casings.
One witness identified Filer as holding a black pistol and firing the gun in the air with multiple people around, court papers said.
Surveillance images also show club members canvassing the ground outside the club, and Filer walking to the rear of his vehicle, taking unidentified items out of his coat pocket and placing them inside the vehicle.
When police confronted Filer about the disappearance of the shell casings and images of him placing items in his vehicle, he first demanded immunity and then denied any knowledge, court papers said.
Police also obtained text messages between the patron and Filer, in which Filer tells the patrol that it can all be handled outside of a courtroom, court papers said.
