The patients have spoken. In a federal survey of patients’ perceptions of hospital care, St. Luke’s Hospital - Carbon Campus and St. Luke’s Hospital -Miners Campus were among the region’s highest-ranked hospitals. Approximately eight out of 10 patients who completed the survey gave the hospitals top scores of nine or 10.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid’s Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey (HCAHPS, pronounced H-caps), which collects and publicly reports patients’ perspectives on topics important to them, released the scores. The CMS data is not limited to Medicare beneficiaries.

“Everyone at St. Luke’s Carbon Campus aims to provide excellent patient care and an outstanding patient experience,” said John Nespoli, president of St. Luke’s Carbon and St. Luke’s Lehighton campuses in Lehighton. “The survey results reflect we are delivering on that promise.”

Diana Laquinta, president of St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale, added, “The staff at St. Luke’s Miners Campus is devoted to providing exceptional patient care. The HCAHPS survey captures the patient’s experience with communication with doctors and nurses, responsiveness of staff, communication about medicines, cleanliness and quietness of hospital, discharge information, transition to post-hospital care and overall rating.
