Two local wrestlers captured championships recently at the Keystone State Wrestling Championships in Reading.
Lehighton’s John Fisher captured the boys 6-and-under title at 56 pounds, while Northwestern’s Nolan Koehler earned first at 145 pounds of the boys 13-14 age group.
In all there were 13 area wrestlers who captured medals at the annual event, which took place from March 15-17.
Two other locals finished second in their respective weight classes. Tamaqua’s Aubrey Kokinda in the girls 11-12 65-pound class, and Pleasant Valley’s Morgan Hyland was runner-up at 105 pounds of the girls 13-14 competition.
Gaining a third-place finish was Northwestern’s Hunter Vermeulen at 55 pounds of the boys 9-10 age bracket and Lehighton’s Zeke Snyder at 61 pounds of the boys 6-and-under category.
Other area medalists included Tamaqua’s Brezlynn Hertzog (sixth, girls 6-and-under, 40 pounds), Palmerton’s Aubree Silfies (sixth, girls 7-8, 88 pounds), Northwestern’s Kenny Kerekes (sixth, boys 15-16, 130 pounds), Northwestern’s Cael Vermeulen (seventh, boys 7-8, 50 pounds), Lehighton’s Valentino Schouppe (eighth, boys 6-and-under, 51 pounds), Tamaqua’s Rylan Reitz (eighth, boys 11-12, 95 pounds) and Pleasant Valley’s Andrew Mihalichko (eighth, boys 15-16, 250 pounds).
