Pl. Valley basket raffle benefits memorial scholarship fund

A basket raffle and designer purse bingo will be held at 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Valley Elementary in remembrance of a coach and community leader who died of colon cancer last year

Tickets to the bingo are sold out, but the basket raffle is still on at the Inaugural Designer Purse Bingo Fundraiser held in memory of Stephanie Pfancook.

Brittany Angelica, one of the event organizers, said there are more than 250 regular ticket baskets and 12 big ticket item baskets available to the community.

Basket prizes include massages, lottery trees, cash, giant waterslide blow ups, week stay at a condo in Myrtle Beach, black-stone grill, Kalahari tickets and more.

Doors will open at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Pleasant Valley Elementary School, where she was a secretary. Basket winners will be selected around 6:30 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go to the Stephanie Pfancook Memorial Fund.

Matthew Pfancook, Stephanie’s husband, said they started the memorial fund to give back to the community in the form of scholarships.

“Community is what Stephanie stood for, giving as much of her time as she could,” he said. “It is our hopes that we can also support families in the community who may not have enough income to sign up their children for youth programs by offering grants to certain programs.”

Alongside her husband, Stephanie was active in the West End Little League as a coach and team sponsor. She also was a coach for Pleasant Valley Youth Association basketball and Cubs cheerleading.

“Stephanie Rose Pfancook was one of a kind, a true pillar in this community,” her husband said. “She would have been overwhelmed with love from the community response and support. She probably would not be able to believe that we sold out of bingo tickets in less the 48 hours.”

Stephanie passed away in December at the age of 38, just eight months after being diagnosed with colon cancer. She leaves behind a loving husband and three young daughters: Alanna Rose, 12, Avalynn, 7, Madeline, 5.

“Stephanie lived every day for her family and friends, always putting everyone else first,” Matthew Pfancook said. “Stephanie had the biggest heart, a beautiful smile, and the greatest laugh. Stephanie was infectious in every way possible. To know Stephanie was a true blessing.”
