March 20, 2000 - Tamaqua’s tennis team opens the season on a winning note, shutting out Lehighton 5-0. The Blue Raiders, coached by Jean Freed, win every contest in straight sets. Justin Fulton posts a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles, while No. 2 Zach Cheese (6-1, 6-0) and No. 3 Brandon Burkett (6-1, 6-3) also cruise to victories. Tamaqua’s doubles teams of Jerry Zalesak and Mike Towle, and Alec Troxell and Shayne Livingston add successful outings against the Indians. The Raiders will go on to enjoy an 11-4 season, which includes a win in district play.
