Lower Towamensing Township supervisors had a bit of good news about the sewer project at their meeting Tuesday night.
Douglas Kopp, a civil engineer with ARRO Consulting Inc. which has been hired to do the project, said his team met with Carbon Engineering on Friday. They were able to verify that all of the electronic files will be usable, and they have them in their possession.
“We do have to convert from the MicroStation to CAD,” Kopp said. “There will be some hours involved with that, but it’s nothing compared to starting from nothing.”
Kopp said their next step is to get the plans put together, and then make alterations and revisions. They will also need to start applying for permits.
“Just waiting on the go ahead to get moving on that process and we’ll start,” he said.
James Nanovic, the solicitor for the township, asked Kopp if he will be submitting a revised proposal. Kopp had said when ARRO was first hired that they would have to refine the proposal once they got the information from Carbon Engineering.
Supervisor Michael Takerer said, “Are those still applicable or do you want to revise those?”
Kopp said the proposal is still applicable. He said the information from Carbon is “better than what we were expecting.” His goal is to set up the project in phases with the costs for each phase. One phase would be for design, for the highway occupancy permit, for the water quality management permit, and bidding.
“I would like for you guys to be able to see very quickly this is what we spent,” Kopp said.
Angela Farrell, the chairman of the township’s Planning Commission, asked Kopp about the timeline for the plans. Kopp said he thinks it will take him somewhere between three and six months.
The board of supervisors gave Kopp permission to proceed with the planning.
