Pleasant Valley Middle School will have an additional state police presence on Wednesday after unverified social media reports of threats being made by students.
Superintendent Dr. James Konrad sent a message to parents stating the police presence was “a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of our students and staff.”
“Your child’s safety is our top priority, and we want to assure you that we are taking every step possible to maintain a secure learning environment,” Konrad said.
Many parents picked their children up from the middle school Friday after another threat was reported through “Safe 2 Say.”
Pleasant Valley Middle School Principal Kendal Askins sent a message to parents saying there was a rumor of a gun being found on school grounds Thursday night.
“It was fully investigated and false,” she added.
Askins went on to say that, “While we were investigating the students were/are on restricted movement. We also have increased police presence to ensure safety. We are safe and have no current danger.”
On Feb. 26, a 12-year-old boy was charged and committed to a juvenile detention center in Northampton County after police investigated a report they received on Feb. 23 of a possible school shooting directed toward multiple school administrators at the Pleasant Valley Middle School.
State police at Fern Ridge said the boy was charged with causing or risking a catastrophe, threat to use weapons of mass destruction, terroristic threats and reckless endangerment.
