Jean Marie Steranka, 64, of Tamaqua, was cited for defiant trespass after she showed up at a medical office in the borough over the past few weeks, despite being warned not to be there, according to police.
Tamaqua police also charged Steranka with disorderly conduct.
According to police, officers were called to a medical center on North Railroad Street at 6:25 a.m. Jan. 10 for a report of a woman carrying a knife. The caller said the woman - later identified as Steranka - was waiting near the employee entrance to the facility and was trying to get inside. The caller also knew that Steranka had made threats and left harassing emails for one of the doctors employed there.
On Jan. 30, police responded to the same location for a report of an unwanted person. Officers said that Steranka had gone into the medical facility’s lobby. She was previously told by police that she would be charged if she went to the office again.
They also spoke to one of Steranka’s neighbors who said that she tried forcing her way into her car that morning in order to get a ride to the medical facility.
On Feb. 8, officers returned to the facility again after hearing that Steranka was there and refusing to leave. A manager said that Steranka was taking pictures of employees’ license plates and said she was waiting for the doctor that she had sent harassing messages to. Police told Steranka to leave but she refused to do so.
Officers detained Steranka and found three large kitchen knives in a bag that she was carrying. Officers confiscated the knives and took her home, where she told them she wished they would “get shot.”
