A dog found under the porch of a vacation home in Monroe County is making progress by the day.
Carbon County Animal Shelter Tom Connors said they’ve had Pocono, a pit bull mix, for about a week.
“He was brought in by our state dog warden,” Connors said. “He was found under a porch in Tobyhanna.”
Connors said it was a vacation home that someone was renting for the weekend “and realized there was a dog under there.”
“The dog warden tried very hard to find a place in the county that would take care of him, so she reached out to us, and we were able to do it,” he said. “Pocono was very scared, emaciated pretty badly, had no strength, could hardly stand by himself.”
Connors said they have since taken care of Pocono by feeding him small portions at a time.
“He’s come a long way in just a couple days,” he said.
Connors said that Pocono will be up for adoption at the Carbon County Animal Shelter.
“At this time, we don’t know how old he is, don’t know if he has any major medical issues yet,” he said. “He’s eating good, drinking water, we’re all excited about that.”
Connors said he wanted to clear the air about some of the things being said about how the situation with Pocono unfolded.
“A lot of people are upset because they think that somebody might have dumped the dog, when in fact we don’t know this answer,” he said. “He may have gotten lost, we don’t know what his past is and how he ended up under the porch.
“It was several days that he had any food or contact with any people. We were able to get (him) just in time.”
Connors said they have been posting Pocono’s picture on their Facebook page.
“A lot of people are supporting him and cheering him on,” he said. “He’s getting stronger every day, which is exciting.”
