Pl. Vly. appoints business manager
Come July, the Pleasant Valley School District will have a new business manager.
At the meeting Thursday night, the school board approved promoting the assistant business manager Tammy Smale to business manager effective July 1. Smale will be taking over for her boss Michael Simonetta, who is retiring in June.
She will be paid an annual salary of $155,000.
Smale joined the Pleasant Valley School District in July 2020 with a starting salary of $77,500. After the retirement of business manager Susan Famularo in December 2020, Smale took on extra responsibilities as the school district searched for a new business manager and hired Joseph Surridge as an interim business manager.
Her salary was bumped up to $92,500 in August 2021. Simonetta was hired in May 2021 with a starting salary of $145,000. Currently, Smale is making $99,088, and Simonetta is making $170,775.
Smale has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from DeSales University. In November, she was honored by the school board for her accomplishment in completing the Pennsylvania Certified School Business Administrative Program through the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials.
At that meeting, Simonetta said the goal of the program is for school business professionals to be acknowledged for their knowledge, expertise and leadership in contributing to the success of the students.
“She is the consummate professional and always sets the example for district staff. She consistently performs over and above expectations. She dedicates extra personal time to make sure all information is gathered for sound decision,” Simonetta said in November.
“She is a valuable asset to the executive team and the entire district.”
The school board and Superintendent James Konrad congratulated Smale on her promotion.
