Drug and alcohol charges

Police reported on the following incidents of drug and alcohol use:

• Jason Mendez Garcia, 20, of Tamaqua, is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after he was stopped by state police at Frackville.

Police said he was driving a 2008 Kia Optima the 100 block of Schuylkill Avenue when he was stopped at 10:47 p.m. Feb. 18.

• State police at Fogelsville responded to a disturbance at 3:23 a.m. Feb. 6 at a property on Weidasville Road, Lowhill Township, and ended up charging a 19-year-old girl from Wescosville for underage drinking.

Police said upon arrival the woman, who is the ex-girlfriend of the complainant’s son, appeared visibly intoxicated while stumbling in the driveway of the residence. They said they detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the woman, who admitted to consuming alcohol and told police she “just wanted her keys.”

They said a portable breath test administered to the woman resulted in a 0.168 percent blood-alcohol reading.

She was detained in handcuffs and placed in the patrol vehicle due to her erratic behavior and was transported to her residence and released in the custody of her parents.
