Tamaqua Borough Council handled business related to the upcoming swim season at the borough pool at Bungalow Park during Tuesday’s meeting.
Council voted to open the pool on May 25, which is the beginning of Memorial Day weekend. The pool’s last day of the season will be Aug. 18.
Councilwoman Mary Linkevich, who chairs the Recreation and Youth Committee, noted that the dates are subject to change based on the Tamaqua Area School District schedule and lifeguard availability.
The pool will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Hours could change based on weather, number of patrons and lifeguard availability.
Beth Jones will return as pool manager for the season at a rate of $17.50 per hour.
Council approved advertising for an assistant pool manager and part-time lifeguards and clerks for the season. Council also approved advertising for a concession stand vendor.
Fees to attend will remain the same as last year.
Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt noted that he’s working with the recreation committee on a Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant for pool renovations.
“We’ve had some discussions about that lately with the folks at DCNR,” he said. “Our first step there would be putting out a request for proposals for a consultant.”
Linkevich said the borough recently received a grant contract, and has been in contact with the borough of Frackville, which recently completed renovations to its community pool. Frackville officials, she said, provided Tamaqua with copies of their requests for proposals.
