Registration due

Today is the last day registration will be accepted for Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center Maple Sugaring Programs for schools, groups and Scouts.

Free dinner held

Zion Lutheran is serving its next free community dinner, by way of a drive-through, from 5 to 6 p.m., today. It will include baked ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, fruit cup and a dessert.

Volunteers doing the prep are asked to report mid-afternoon.

The church reminds all that its worship services include Saturdays at 5 p.m., Sundays at 8 a.m. also via Zoom and 10:30 a.m. also via Facebook Live. A simple prerecorded spoken service is available each week on Facebook. Sunday School is held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 9:15 a.m.

Eldred meeting

The Eldred Township board of supervisors meeting will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Municipal Building, 490 Kunkletown Rd. Meetings are held in-person and virtually.

Souper Bowl still

St. Matthew’s UCC continues its Souper Bowl project through the month of February.

Worshippers are reminded to bring in cans of soup to donate to the West End Food Pantry and PVEN as well as putting cash donations into the pot to vote for one’s favorite team.

Missions meal

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will host its West End Missions meal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Pantry open

The Supplemental Food Resource Center (food pantry) at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Line dancing

The West End American Legion, Post 927, is hosting Country Line Dancing on Saturday, from 6 to 10 p.m. The event is open to the community though there is a cost.

Cost includes lessons, which begins at 6:30 p.m.

Star seeing Saturday

The Astronomy in the Community Club in Polk Township is set to host a nighttime stargazing event Saturday. For time, contact the township.

Chili cook-off

Polk Township Fire Company will host a chili cook-off on Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. as a fundraiser for Austin’s Blue Line. This fundraiser goes toward scholarships for young persons seeking to go into areas of Law Enforcement.

Community Supper

The next community Sunday supper hosted by our Lady Queen of Peace Church twice a month is on the calendar for 3 p.m., Sunday.

The parish office is open from 8:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Bingo Night

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is holding an open-to-the-public Bingo Night this Monday, beginning with card sales at 6:30 p.m. and playing at 7 p.m.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran Church’s Knit & Crochet group at 1 p.m. Tuesday. New members are welcome.

WE Republicans

The next meeting of the West End Republican Club will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville. Those planning to eat dinner there or socialize are asked to come at 6 p.m.

SAL meeting

Sons of the American Legion will be meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Legion Home on Rt. 209 in Gilbert.

PVEN gifts shared

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church members held pots for the Souper Bowl of Caring Weekend.

That event raised $1,600 for the PVEN which services so folks in need through its various pantries, including food, clothing, personal care items, etc.

Services rendered

The PVEN (Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network) Rt. 209, Sciota, has tallied its January outreach services. They include: Food Pantry, 279 families served, 810 individuals; Clothing Closet, 43 families served, 133 individuals; Diaper Pantry, 89 families served; Menstrual Hygiene Pantry, 140 individuals served.

Current needs are: Food Pantry-cereals, tomato sauce, cake mix, taco kits; Clothing Closet-bras & sports bras (all sizes), blankets, comforters and bed sheets, toothbrushes & toothpaste, new cleaning supplies and paper towels; diaper pantry-adult sized pull-ups & bed pads.
