NL recognizes students, band director

Several Northern Lehigh High School students, along with its band director, were recognized for their recent contributions.

Northern Lehigh High School band members, band director David Carroll, and the school board’s two student representatives were acknowledged by Superintendent Dr. Matthew J. Link at last week’s school board meeting.

65th annual Lehigh County Honors Band

Link said that high school band members Andi Szwast, Steycie Rodriguez-Delgado, Evan German, Joshua Weaber, and Reece Johnson represented the district earlier this month at the 65th annual Lehigh County Honors Band.

In addition, Link said that band director David Carroll served as chairman of the Lehigh County Honors Band Association.

“Of special note this year, his opening remarks so impressed the PA Music Educators Association representative that was in the audience that he made a special request for a copy of Mr. Carroll’s speech so it could be published in the association’s statewide journal,” Link said. “Mr. Carroll spoke so eloquently about the power of music, and I cannot do it justice, but the one statement within his speech was that ‘Music is the common language of all humanity.’ That really struck a chord with me; I find it to be completely true.”

He then congratulated the students and Carroll.

GNLCC meeting

Link also thanked the school board’s two student representatives, Victoria Hanna and Jalah Cook.

He said that earlier this month, the district hosted the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce, along with Tony Iannelli, president and CEO of the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.

“Victoria and Jalah gave a comprehensive update on all Northern Lehigh High School events and accomplishments for the entire building, but also calling out some individual students for their recent accomplishments.

“So they gave the district report in lieu of me giving it, and they did a much better job that particular morning. The chamber was very impressed with what is happening in Northern Lehigh, and in particular by the professionalism and poise of Victoria and Jalah.”

Staffs recognized

Also as part of his report, Link said National School Counselor’s Appreciation Week and Food Service Workers Appreciation Week were Feb. 5-9, while School Police Officer Appreciation Day was Feb. 15.

Link acknowledged all the staff members who represent each of those groups, and said the district appreciates all that they do.
