Lansford Borough Council
Lansford Borough Council took action on several matters at its meeting Wednesday night. Business included:
• Tabling a motion to purchase a new computer system for the police department from Cloud Services for $22,117.84 to be paid from pandemic relief funds.
Councilwoman Michele Bartek wanted to check to see if these could be purchased through a state COSTARs contract to save money. She said she would check with Cloud Services.
• Approving the borough engineer to prepare a cost estimate to install curbing along Cortright Street from Patterson to Ridge streets, and repave Dock Street from Route 209 to Cortright Street to allow the borough to apply for an Intermodal Grant for the work, in conjunction with the expansion project at the No. 9 Coal Mine and Museum. The cost estimate is $850.
• Approving Billiter Electric to diagram, evaluate and make recommendations for electrical improvements at Kennedy Park for $2,100 to be paid from Park and Recreations funds.
Markovich said that the electrical system in the park needs upgrading, as they had problems through the holiday season with Christmas lights.
• Approving a reimbursement to police Chief Kyle Woodward of $164 for medical tests designated by the mayor and not covered by his existing medical coverage. Councilman Jack Soberick noted that the borough should have a doctor designated for such testing, which could be billed directly to the borough.
• Approving the installation of a new plow control on the 2008 Ford dump truck at a cost of $2,795. The truck’s hydraulics failed, and need to be fixed, Councilman Jay Doyle said.
• Tabling motions on a reserved customer parking space at Cabrera’s, and private parking spaces for Grace Community Church’s food bank at 47 W. Ridge St., as well as a motion to waive the yearly fee for the food bank.
• Hearing from residents regarding police response and manpower, public comments on agenda items, a downed wire, the oversized truck and trailer ordinance, police using loud speaker to have residents move vehicles due to snow plowing when people need to sleep, need for sign at Powell and Bertsch streets, a pickleball court, and a parking solution representative who will address council at a later date.
