State police at Frackville - crashes
State police at Frackville released information on area crashes:
• Police said a 2011 Acura was heavily damaged in a crash at 8:47 a.m. Feb. 3 on the Interstate 81 connector in Kline Township.
They said it was traveling south when it left the roadway and struck an embankment, turning onto its side before coming to rest on all four wheels. They said the operator of the vehicle was not located, having fled the scene after the crash.
• Tiffany Beaver, 46, of Shenandoah, is facing charges of driving under the influence after a crash at 12:09 a.m. Jan. 1 on Norton Way in West Mahanoy Township. She was uninjured.
Police said she was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt south when it failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway. The car left the road, traveled on the left shoulder and crashed into a guide rail. It sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene, police said.
• Taras M. Wac, 60, of Camp Hill, was cited for driving on roadways lanes for traffic after a two-vehicle crash at 9:13 p.m. Jan. 31 on Interstate 81 Ryan Township.
Police said he was driving a 2023 Volvo tractor trailer northbound when it struck the left wheel/axle of a 2004 Ford F250 whose trailing unit was disabled along the right shoulder of the road. The F250 had been driven by Flauberte F. Ferreira, 30, of Hartford, Connecticut.
They said the Volvo traveled across the northbound shoulder of the interstate before going down an embankment.
Police said both vehicles sustained disabling damages and were towed from the scene.
Neither Wac nor Ferreira were injured, police said.
• Cindy A. Bucks, 55, of Tamaqua, was cited for immediate notice of accident to a police department after a one-vehicle crash at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 on Old Route 209 in Schuylkill Township.
Police said she was driving a 2018 Mercedes-Benz west when it crossed into the opposite lane, traveled off the roadway and went down an embankment about 50 feet before striking a tree.
Bucks and a passenger, Heather A. Fenstermacher, 36, also of Tamaqua, were uninjured.
Police said Bucks failed to notify police about the crash. She is also facing citations for three Motor Vehicle Code violations.
The car was towed from the scene, police said.
• Jessi C. Bailey, 19, of Pottsville, was cited after a crash at 6:56 p.m. Feb. 11 on the Burma Road in Blythe Township. No one was injured.
Police said she was driving a 2011 Honda CRV northbound and attempted to navigate a left curve in the road when the car traveled off the highway. The operator swerved the vehicle, at which time it traveled into the oncoming lane, left the road on the left side and struck a tree.
The car sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
Police said a 17-year-old female from Pottsville who was a passenger in the car reported minor neck and knee pain and transported herself to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-East, Pottsville, for an evaluation.
• Calvin O. Dorward Jr., 68, of Lehighton, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:45 a.m. Feb. 5 at the intersection of Route 309 (West Penn Pike) and Summer Valley Road in West Penn Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Penn Mahoning Ambulance to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
The other driver, Joshua C. McClain, 33, of Danville, was not injured.
Police said the crash happened when a 2011 Jeep Patriot operated by Dorward on Route 309 went into the intersection without proper clearance and was stuck by a 2012 Subaru driven southbound on West Penn Pike by McClain. They said after the initial impact, the Jeep rolled one time, rotated 80 degrees and came to rest on its wheels. Both vehicles sustained disabling damages and were towed from the scene.
Police said Dorward was cited for the crash.
• Michael D. Benjamin Jr., 30, of Kulpmont, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 7:41 p.m. Feb. 10 on Pine Creek Drive (Route 54) in Rush Township. He was uninjured.
Police said he was driving a 2005 Dodge Durango eastbound when it left the south side of the road and struck a utility pole before crossing over both travel lanes and overturning on the north side of the road, coming to rest on its roof facing west.
The Durango was towed from the scene.
