Shooting range on game lands getting upgrades

The Pennsylvania Game Commission shooting range on State Game Lands 141 in Nesquehoning will be closed for repairs and upgrades beginning Wednesday.

The required revamp will take approximately two months, and the commission hopes to reopen the range by mid-April.

Lt. Aaron C Morrow, information and education supervisor for the commission’s Northeast region, said the project includes the installation of roof coverings at every shooting station.

“This will offer some cover from the elements should inclement weather arise while the public is utilizing the range,” he said.

In addition, the commission will improve handicap access to all shooting stations at the range, and install two new shotgun patterning stations, Morrow noted.

“The upgrades will improve the quality of the shooting range and the overall experience for shooters,” said Northeast region Land Management Group Supervisor Ryan Gildea. “This required work will ensure the safety and quality of our range.”

Morrow noted that only the range will be closed to public access.

“State Game Lands 141 is still open to the public, no restrictions are placed on entering the game lands, just the public shooting range,” he said.

Folks can visit other public ranges operated by the commission, including seven others in the Northeast region, while the Nesquehoning site is closed.
