Crash details released in Weisenberg Twp. fatality

Pennsylvania State Police at Fogelsville have released details of a fatal crash last week on Holbens Valley Road in Weisenberg Township, which claimed the life of a New Tripoli man, have been released by state police at Fogelsville.

Christopher M. Baines, 58, of New Tripoli, died in the crash at 1:11 p.m. Jan. 30.

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said he was pronounced dead at 2:02 p.m. and the cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma.

Police said Baines was driving a 2017 Jeep Wrangler westbound when it veered off the road and hit a guide rail on the right side of the road. It continued westbound, traveled across the road and struck a culvert off the west side of the road, before going airborne and striking a tree. Police said the Jeep continued to travel westbound where it struck a second tree before coming to rest.

They said Baines was ejected from the vehicle.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, Cetronia Ambulance Corps, Weisenberg Township Fire Company, a local towing service and state police from Bethlehem.
