Galen Glen Vineyard & Winery in Andreas hosted a Chili Cook-off Saturday to support the Friends of CCTI, a fundraising organization for the Carbon Career & Technical Institute.
“In the past, we’ve done this with other organizations. This is our first time with CCTI,” said Sarah Troxell of Andreas and Galen Glen.
Admission was $12 fee with half the proceeds going to the school.
Participants sampled the five chilies entered: Royal Mountain Chili, Holy Frijoles Vegetarian Chili, CCTI Machine Shop Chili, Superbowl Chili, and Galen Glen’s entry, Chili Con Chambourcin. They also received a glass of wine and some cornbread. They then voted for their favorite entrants.
While CCTI does have a culinary arts department, it was the Precision Machine Technology Department that cooked the chili.
“The kids put this together along with Mr. Kevin Kuehner, the Machine Shop coordinator and SkillsUSA adviser,” said Robyn Plesniarski, one of the co-founders of the Friends of CCTI. “On Wednesdays, they have a breakout session. They used that time to put together their entry, ‘Machine Shop Chili.’”
Machine Shop Chili was voted the best chili.
