State police at Hazleton

State police at the Hazleton barracks reported the following:

• Keith C. Koch, 40, of Weatherly, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 6:26 p.m. Jan. 24 on the Arthur Gardner Parkway in Hazle Township.

Police said he was driving a 2016 Jeep Patriot eastbound when it crossed the double yellow lines and struck a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt that was driven westbound by Melissa A. Branz, 36, of Junedale.

Police said a 17-year-old girl from Junedale who was a passenger in the Cobalt had a minor leg injury and was transported by personnel from the McAdoo Fire Company Ambulance Association to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Neither driver, nor two other passengers with Branz, boys aged 11 and 14, were injured.

• Christopher G. Schott, 28, of Freeland, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 8:17 p.m. Jan. 19 on Route 940 in Hazle Township. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2012 Subaru Impreza eastbound when he became distracted and the car left the roadway, colliding with a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Benjamin D. Haberle, 30, of Mahanoy City. After the initial contact, the Impreza continued eastbound, entering a ski court where it came to rest.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damages and were towed from the scene.

• A 45-year-old Coaldale man was charged with harassment by physical contact after police were called to an incident at 11:57 a.m. Jan. 19 on Airport Road in Hazle Township.

The victims are a 40-year-old woman from Nuremberg and a 2-year-old woman from Plains. Police said they reported being pushed by the arrestee while he was at the location for an appointment.

• Juan Espino-Calcano, 58, of Tresckow, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a one-vehicle mishap at 10 a.m. Jan. 19 in the Jeansville Road in Hazle Township. He was uninjured.

Police said he was driving a 2003 Ford Escape southbound when it began spinning due to slippery road conditions and struck two mailboxes. Police said the driver fled the scene.

• A 28-year-old Tamaqua man was charged with harassment by communications after police were called to an incident at 12:07 a.m. Jan. 19 on North Park Drive in Hazle Township.

The victims are a 36-year-old woman from Hazleton and a 30-year-old woman from Berwick. Police said the man, a former employee, sent unwanted text messages to his former management.

• Penelope Leon, 21, of McAdoo, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a crash at 6:33 a.m. Jan. 17 on State Route 8003, Exit 145 northbound on Interstate 81 in West Hazleton.

Police said she was driving a 2011 Subaru Impreza northbound when she lost control of the vehicle and it struck a guide rail. The car sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.

• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 4:25 p.m. Jan. 16 on Interstate 81 in West Hazleton.

Police said John Michael Vidzicki, 40, of Quakake, was driving a 2009 Ford Ranger in the right lane of traffic when he lost control of it. The Ranger struck a concrete bridge, before traveling across both lanes and striking a guide rail.

The vehicle had disabling damages and was towed from the scene.

Vidzicki and a passenger, Ray L. Whah, 26, also of Quakake, escaped injuries.
