Emmaus man dies in Route 378 crash in Bethlehem

A 40-year-old Emmaus man died Monday night in the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem, after a car he was driving slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer on Route 378 in Bethlehem.

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said Ricardo Lee was pronounced dead at 11:01 p.m. in the emergency department of the hospital.

Death was attributed to multiple blunt force injuries he sustained in the crash.

According to Buglio, the crash happened around 10:13 p.m. in the area of Route 378 northbound, about one-quarter mile south of Route 22 eastbound in Bethlehem.

WFMZ-TV reported Bethlehem City police said Lee’s car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the rig as both vehicles were northbound near Catasauqua Road.

The report said responding officers pulled Lee from his car and began CPR, after which time he was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
