Monroe County crashes
State police at the Stroudsburg barracks reported the following:
• Two vehicles were damaged but were drivable after a mishap at 7:56 a.m. Jan. 8 on Interstate 80 in Hamilton Township.
Police said John J. Negri, 93, of Rockaway, New Jersey, was driving a 2017 Cadillac eastbound when he failed to account for a change in speed by a 2005 Toyota Camry operated by Donald R. Chaump, 61, of West Wyoming, striking the latter vehicle.
A passenger with Chaump, Duane A. Modest Jr., of Pittston, had minor injuries and was transported by personnel from the St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport Services to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Stroudsburg.
• Frank J. Pontillo, 53, of Stroudsburg, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a two-vehicle incident at 1:14 p.m. Jan. 9 on Route 209 in Hamilton Township. No one was injured.
Police said he was driving a 2018 Dodge Ram truck northbound and was traveling too fast for wet and snowy conditions when he lost control of the vehicle. It spun clockwise and entered the right lane of travel, striking a 2020 Hyundai Tucson operated by Bernadette A. Meier, 68, of Dingmans Ferry.
Police said the truck was able to be driven from the scene while the Hyundai had to be towed.
State police at the Stroudsburg barracks reported the following:
• Ralph Vecchio, 86, of Stroudsburg, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 5:07 p.m. Jan. 11 on Rimrock Drive in Hamilton Township. No one was injured in the incident
Police said he was driving a 201 Toyota Avalon south when it partially entered the oncoming lane and struck a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Robert W. Hatton, 59, of Stroudsburg, who was slowing down while traveling north.
Police said Vecchio left the scene.
• John M. Jakobsen IV, 55, of Sciota, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 2:31 p.m. Jan. 18 on Route 33 in Hamilton Township.
Police said he was driving a 2006 Nissan Frontier southbound when it left the roadway and struck a guide rail. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
