A driver who failed to stop for state police at the Hazleton barracks and fled the scene in Hazle Township on Friday at 2:42 a.m. crashed and was ejected from his vehicle.

Police said they attempted to stop the vehicle driven by a 23-year-old Hispanic man for a traffic violation but he fled at a high rate of speed southbound on Route 924 toward Interstate 81.

Police said they lost sight of the fleeing vehicle as it merged on the interstate, but later discovered it disabled off the southbound lanes, with the driver having been ejected from the vehicle.

Police said troopers rendered medical aid to the victim until emergency services personnel arrived at the scene and transported him to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township.
