No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 9 on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
It happened at mile marker 91.6 in Kidder Township.
State police at Pocono said it happened when a 2012 Freightliner operated by Jesus D. Rivero, 52, of Miami, Florida, went out of control and struck the concrete barrier, pushing the concrete into the left lane. Police said the rig traveled across the roadway and went through a guard rail. They said Rivero was able to exit the vehicle before it caught fire.
Police said a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by John G. Buchlis, 69, of Williamsville, New York, struck the concrete in the left lane, resulting in damage to the vehicle’s undercarriage.
