Nesquehoning officials have declared a water emergency for the borough after several areas within the town limits have reported water issues Monday morning.
Nesquehoning water crews were called for a reported water main break in New Columbus early this morning, however the problem has expanded beyond the initial affected area.
According to the borough water authority, the break is at the corner of Garibaldi and Genoa Avenue; however, Suzanne Smith said that she has fielded multiple calls with water problems across various areas of the town.
Because of this, crews are working to see if there are other breaks along the water line or if it is centralized to the New Columbus water main break.
Smith said that all of Nesquehoning will be under a boil advisory until further notice.
The borough will follow EPA guidelines and will notify residents when the boil advisory is lifted.
Anyone with questions or concerns should call the water authority office at 570-669-6124. Alerts are also posted on the Nesquehoning Borough Authority Facebook page.
A text-based alert system is also available.
Residents wishing to receive alerts when problems arise in their area should contact the authority and provide their name and cellphone number.
