Charges filed in crashes at Franklin property

Charges have been filed after a home in Franklin Township was struck by trucks on two separate occasions earlier this month.

At 6:15 p.m. Jan. 4, a crash occurred at the intersection of Long Run Road and Canal Street/Fairyland Road.

A commercial motor-vehicle combination struck a residence in the area when attempting to turn from Long Run Road onto Canal Street.

Long Run Road has been closed to truck traffic for several years, but truck combinations continue to travel the road despite signage and enforcement.

The truck operator, identified as Ryan Williams, 33, of Kentucky, said he was unaware he had struck the residence.

Williams was charged with accident involving damage to attended vehicle or property, careless driving, and obedience to traffic control devices.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled.

The second crash involving the same residence took place at 12:08 p.m. Jan. 9.

This time, another truck hit the residence.

The truck operator, identified as Jean Dorsainvil, 62, of Florida, stated that he was following his GPS and was unaware he had hit the residence.

Dorsainvil was arraigned on charges of accident involving damage to attended vehicle or property, careless driving, and obedience to traffic control devices.

Dorsainvil was arraigned and released after posting a monetary bail to ensure his appearance at a preliminary hearing.

The home owned by Jason Eidem has been struck by tractor-trailers on multiple occasions.

On Aug. 8, 2022, two trucks that were transporting items for Walmart struck the property, causing damage to the house and property.

The first two trucks never stopped, according to video feed provided by Eidem. In the video, the two tractor-trailers with “Walmart.com” on their sides struck Eidem’s home as they turned off Long Run Road onto Canal Street and drove away.

The extra traffic at the time was due to vehicles being diverted from the Pennsylvania Turnpike due to a crash, and the turnpike was shut down. The trucks came off the turnpike on Route 903, came down Maury Road, then turned right onto Long Run Road.

Some of the traffic issues were discussed with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in October 2021.
