Reward offered in 1973 Slatington killing

The Pennsylvania State Police, Troop M, Criminal Investigation Assessment Unit continues its 50-year investigation into the killing of Richard Stewart Wimbish.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

On Jan. 13, 1973, the 49-year-old Wimbish was found dead in Trout Creek, Slatington, in northern Lehigh County.

Wimbish had been shot and his body was discovered, wrapped in a sleeping bag, by several youths who were walking along the creek.

Wimbish was last seen on Dec. 29, 1972, as he was leaving work. He was employed as a driver for the Pennsylvania Trucking Company located at 49th Street and Parkside Avenue in Philadelphia. His normal delivery route took him from Philadelphia to Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Stroudsburg areas. He lived in the Franklin Court Apartments in Philadelphia.

Wimbish was supposed to spend the New Year’s Eve holiday with a female friend in Pleasantville, New Jersey, but never showed up.

His 1967 green Cadillac sedan was located in the 100 block of Duval Street, Philadelphia on Jan. 23, 1973, just several blocks from his home.
